Club Meeting - Get On The Bus Sacramento
May 19, 2025 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Jackeline Aguilar, Regional Coordinator for Get On The Bus Sacramento, will explain how they provide support to families with incarcerated loved ones.

Get On The Bus (GOTB) is a statewide prison visiting program that educates hundreds of volunteers and supporters throughout California and engages the community to raise awareness about the plight of children with a parent in prison.

 

Get On The Bus advocates for the right of children to see, touch, and talkto their parent who is incarcerated.

Our meal will be provided Cafe Italiano

Poker Fellowship

We will host the District Recognition and Awards Events  at Safetyville, USA, a miniature city that spans a little over 3 acres of land in Sacramento, California. We will kick the meeting off and welcome our distinguished guests before turning the agenda over to DG Steve to hand out awards. There will also be a chili cookoff (our dinner) with the winning club getting a nice prize.

Club Meeting - Human Trafficking
Jun. 16, 2025 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
DDA Maroun will speak about the human trafficking epidemic currently ongoing and expanding in the Sacramento region and reaching far beyond our region.  The most recent statistics show that there are 11.2 times more victims of sex trafficking in Sacramento than what law enforcement and service providers have been able to identify.  She will discuss the typical profile of a victim and organizations you can support locally working to fight for these victims.
 
Stephanie Maroun is a Deputy District Attorney with the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, where she serves as a trial attorney for the Sacramento County Regional Human Trafficking Task Force.  She was admitted to the California Bar in December 2010, she earned her law degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, and her undergraduate degree from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.  During her time with the Sacramento District Attorney’s Office, she has worked in various assignments, including adult sexual assault, major crimes, and domestic violence. 

Our meal will be a chicken and carnitas tostada bar provided by La Placita.

DEMOTION - the event is this Saturday (6/28/2025) at the North Ridge Country Club here in Fair Oaks. There has been a minor change in start time since we don't have to account for travel time from the Pre-Dinner Social to the Dinner Service/Program, as we've done in previous years. Start time is now 5:30 PM (not 5:00pm).

End of Life Options Act - Medical Aid in Dying

Our Speaker will be Howard Homler speaking on: "End of Life Options Act - Medical Aid in Dying". Howard Homler, MD, Fellow of the American Academy of Physicians. Howard is a retired specialist in internal medicine, hospice, and palliative care. In addition to many years praticing internal medicine, he has spent recent years as a hospice medical director, prior to retiring. He will discuss the California law that allows people with a terminal illness to choose medical-aid-in-dying--reviewing what the End of Life Options Act provides California residents. Dr. Homler has both knowledge about the law and personal experience in providing medical-aid-in-dying to multiple individuals. After the presentation you'll have a clear understanding of why such an option was needed, who qualifies and who doesn't, what are the safeguards to avoid abuse, and how does the process work.

Our meal will be: Lasagne with salad and bread from Cafe Italiano

Club Meeting - Mexican Independence Day

Speaker: Dr. Ellie Perez finished her post grad studies and thesis at the University of Madrid and University of Guadalajara with a specialization in Tribal Cultures. She is one of the core team founders for Folsom Lake College. As Academic Senate President for Los Rios Community College District, Dr. Perez authored CRC and FLC governance documents as designated by AB 1725. Professor Perez' research and community contributions have been in language, sociology and culture. Her topic for our club meeting is: "The Mexico We Don't Know, Mexican Independence, September 15, 1810.

2025 Chicken Festival Watering Hole

The Rotary Club of Fair Oaks is once again honored to be selected as the host for the beer and wine boothes at the 20th Annual Fair Oaks Chicken Festival, this year in Fair Oaks Park.

We need volunteers to:

  • help pick up kegs, tents, tables & chairs before  the event (Fri 9/19)

  • set up tents, tables & chairs before the event (Sat 9/20 9am)

  • pour beer & wine during shifts during the event (Sat 9/20 noon -6pm)

  • clean up and load tents, tables & chairs after the event (Sat 9/20 6pm)

  • help return kegs, tents, tables and chairs (Mon 9/21)

Our goal is to have volunteers identified prior to Sept 1.  Please contact one of us for more details or to volunteer!

2025 Walk to End Alzheimer's

Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's® is the world's largest fundraiser for Alzheimer's care, support and research. This inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to join the fight against the disease.

The Alzheimer Association is a resource partner for the Alzheimer's Dementia Rotary Action Group (ADRAG) and is proud to announce that ADRAG will be a Walk to End Alzheimer's National Team for the 4th year in a row! Last year, over 260 Rotary groups across the country signed up and raised over $500,000 to help with the fight against Alzheimer's.

Let's see how many members can sign up to walk this year, or sponsor someone who does!

The Fair Oaks Rotary will be hosting the Beer & Wine concession at the Grand Opening of the Village Park on family day.  This will be a perfect opportunity to promote membership and show our support for the opening of the park.  The Beer & Wine concession will be chaired by Debbie Kesseling and Alida Bray.  If you’d like to help with that area, contact them.  If you’d like to help with the Membership portion, contact Katie Yount.

Club Meeting - Laura Heigleman
Oct. 13, 2025 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Our speaker will be Laura Heigelmann. She will talk to us about the indigenous people of our area. Her roots are with the Potawatomi tribe of No. Wisconsin. Her father was an elder, storyteller and dancer. She actively volunteers with efforts related to food insecurities and people of need. 

Menu: Our new cook, Brian London will be serving smoked pork ribs, marinated chicken thighs, mixed vegetables, potato Au Gratin, salad, dinner rolls and butter.

Club Meeting - Susan Dewar

Our speaker will be Susan Dewar, President and Founder of the California Wolf Foundation.  Susan is an ecologist based in northern California with over 25 years of experience and founded the organization when the first known gray wolf (OR-7) was discovered within California in 2011 and wolves began to take a foothold in the state and conflicts with ranchers began occurring.

Menu: Brisket, boneless chicken thighs, garlic mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, salad & dinner rolls

Safer Halloween

Rotary Day at the FO/OV Food Bank

The Orangevale Fair Oaks Food Bank is a great way to help. We meet there once a month on the first Friday of each month. The time for the Rotary Day at the Food Bank is from 9 to 1, at 6483 Main Ave, Orangevale, CA 95662 and we will explain a variety of duties to you when you arrive. Foundation Dinner

Cost is $85 per person.  Your dinner choice is: Rosemary Apple Chicken Breast, Braised Bee Brisket with Red Wine Sauce or Vegetarian/Vegan will be Butternut Squash and Potato Gallette.  VIP Reception is 5:30- 6:30pm, Doors open at 6pm, at the Citrus Heights Community Center.
